| Sponsored Research: The Impacts of Limited-service Hospitals
McManis recently completed a detailed analysis of changes in healthcare delivery patterns associated
with the introduction of limited-service (specialty) hospitals. This work, which was sponsored by the
American Hospital Association (AHA) and four state hospital associations, included detailed case studies
of healthcare delivery systems in the Black Hills, Wichita, Lincoln and Oklahoma City. McManis's summary
report on the impacts in these case study communities is available
HERE (PDF, 617KB). Related materials are available
on AHA's Web site.
McManis and the NACHRI have collaborated on a joint research project each of
the past nine years. Our recent reports on this work:
Children's Hospitals' Relationships with Private Practice Physicians
Our joint research for 2004 focused on the changing relationships between children's hospitals
and their private practice communities. This work included explorations of best practices in outreach
to referral sources, best ways to be accessible and responsive to referring physicians, and best ways
to use their input.
Children's Hospitals' Relationships with Physicians and Academic Departments
Our joint research for 2003 focused on key issues for three common physician employment models within children's
hospitals (those with primarily university-based specialists, those with primarily private practice specialists and
those with primarily specialists who are employed by the children's hospital).
Growth Strategies outside the Walls of Children's Hospitals
McManis Consulting and the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions
(NACHRI) completed our fourth joint research project, concerning best practices in organizing and
managing children's services outside the primary inpatient facility. Results of this survey and
research were presented at the NACHRI 2002 Annual Meeting.
