McManis Consulting and the National Association for Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) have collaborated on joint research projects for the past twelve years. Examples of previous research are shown below:

  • Managing Risks and Opportunities in an Era of Transition (2010) McManis and NACHRI's joint research examined the changing health care reform landscape and the strategic imperatives for children's hospitals. Over the next several years, what are the highest priorities for change? How can these strategic imperatives be addressed in the context of an orderly, multi-year transition process?
  • Surgeons in Chief - Roles, Responsibilities, Opportunities (2009) - Our research focused on the broad role of Surgeon in Chief. What are typical roles and responsibilities? How does the role vary in different children's hospital organizations? What are the challenges? The research featured examples and case studies from 10 leading children's hospitals.
  • Children's Hospitals' Organizational Structure and Function (2008) - Our joint research project in 2008 focused on how children's hospitals being governed and managed. We examined the rationale and impact underlying shifts in governance structures. We also considered trends in management team structures. The research included 8 case studies of children's hospitals' governance and management structures.
  • Children's Hospitals' Outreach Activities (2007) - McManis and NACHRI studied trends in outreach activities. Specifically, what new initiatives are being undertaken, how are they organized and with what success? The research featured nine case studies.

Prior research, sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA) addressed the impacts of physician-owned specialty hospitals on patterns of health care in their communities.

McManis staff have also collaborated on joint research with the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
