Healthcare is McManis' largest practice area. We work extensively with hospitals and health systems, medical groups of all specialties, health plans, long term care providers, other specialty providers (e.g., rehabilitation, dialysis, home health), healthcare associations, and vendors to the healthcare industry (e.g., information technology companies, device manufacturers, and financial services firms).

Recent and/or Current Assignments to Healthcare organizations:

  • Assisting a major academic medical center with a new strategy for its women's and children's services.
  • Assisting a multi-hospital system, formed initially through merger, in streamlining and adjusting its governance structure.
  • Assisting a community health system in expanding - adding a new campus in its rapid growth corridor, and developing new physician relationships to accommodate the growth.
  • Assisting a health system in adjusting its organizational structure to accommodate growth.
  • Assisting a children's hospital in refining its strategy and re-structuring its management team.
  • Assisting a major foundation in evaluation the desirability of financing supporting the development of a replacement healthcare campus in its target service area.
  • Assisting an integrated health system (including five hospitals, health plan, sports and fitness center, ambulatory and diagnostic facilities, medical practices, and home health and retirement housing ventures) with its strategic plan.
  • Assisting two merging systems in developing a joint IT strategy - including planning philosophy and priorities, technology market forecasting, staff organizational planning, major system investments, investment criteria and philosophy, and tie-ins to overall system planning, knowledge management, productivity enhancement and organizational development initiatives.
  • Assisting a hospital and allied medical groups in forming two new physician organizations and negotiating new financial relationships between the hospital and the new physician organizations.
  • Negotiating new "win-win" alliances between a health plan and its major hospital system partners.
  • Assisting in the merger of two orthopedic groups.
  • Crafting a mutually acceptable risk-sharing agreement between a hospital and a health plan.
  • Facilitating merger negotiations between two health systems.
  • Exploring the feasibility of a new joint pediatric program.
  • Assessing the financial feasibility of a new long-term care facility.
  • Reorganizing a hospital's cardiac services program.
  • Valuing medical practices for purchase by a hospital.
  • Assisting a medical practice in unwinding its arrangement with a physician practice management company.
  • Providing litigation support in an anti-trust case.
  • Restructuring the governance of a health system to increase the focus, accountability, diversity and role of physicians.
